Welcome to Xenoglass

the space opera setting for the Alabaster RPGS

“Slip in. Pocket some Glass. Don’t get killed.”

“Amen to that, princess,” Jarred agreed.

“Don’t call me princes- uurgh.” Rainen trailed off into a growl. That battle was lost and she knew it.

“All right kids, knock it off. Clock’s tight on this.” Bhushan intoned, instantly stilling his subordinates. He looked down at the stony asteroid turning below them. Beneath its unassuming exterior was – hopefully – an ancient harbor, a space dock built by the lost T’ien Lung civilization. A treasure trove of Glass and a serious feather in their caps, if their preparations paid off. “Get your game faces on.”

Humanity has spread across the stars but still battles with its own worst nature.  From humble beginnings beneath a single yellow sun, Humanity has reached out to settle over 200 stars, a region of space now known as the Nine Reaches. More than half of these worlds belong to one of a trio of nations which rose to power following the collapse of the Ascendancy, a cabal of human/AI hybrid ‘Liches’ who overran and enslaved mankind for almost two decades following their digital apotheosis.

Science Fiction al Dente

The Xenoglass setting strives to remain “firm” science fiction, folding, spindling or ignoring known laws of physics only where necessary to create the storytelling environment. While not as rigorously accurate as hard sci-fi, it’s also not as freewheeling as typical soft science fiction. Unknown energies, dimensional anomalies, and even the near ubiquitous ‘force field’ are largely absent from human capabilities. Hopefully this will create an interesting contrast for Xenoglass players, where certain limitations are long since overcome while other dramatic challenges remain quite familiar and intractable.
